Library Spring Break Hours
The Library will be closed the first weekend of Spring Break, Saturday and Sunday, March 21st, and 22nd.
Open Mon-Thurs, 23rd-26th, 8am-4:30pm. Open Friday, 27th, 8am-12pm
Closed on Saturday the 28th and Open Sunday, the 29th, 1-5pm.
The majority of our resources are available via the library website.
Academic Success Center Spring Break Hours (NEW)
The Academic Success Center (ASC) Spring Break Hours are as follows: Burns Hall Computer Lab will be closed March 21 and open March 23-27, from 8am-4:30pm.
The Tutoring Center will be closed March 21-27. Both the Tutoring Center and Computer Lab will be open regular hours on Saturday, March 28, from 9am-1pm.
Tutoring services at the Washington County Center will be closed Spring Break. Regular semester hours will resume March 30.

Komen Race for the Cure-Join the NWACC team (NEW)
Your support saves lives!
75% of all funds raised support breast health services for local uninsured and underinsured families.
1:8 women in America will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
36 breast cancers were diagnosed using Komen Ozark funding in 2014.
429 new people are expected to be diagnosed in 2015 in our 10 county area.
97 people are expected to die from breast cancer in 2015 in our 10 county area.
Join our team and help save lives! This year’s event will be held on April 25th beginning at 7:30 am at Pinnacle Hills Promenade. Be one of the first 10 members and your registration fee will be sponsored by Dr. Ricky Tompkins and Learner Support Services. If you would like to register, please email Becky Hudson (rhudson1@nwacc.edu). She will give you a code to bypass the payment if you are one of the first 10.

Flipping the Script Writing Contest
Hosted by Insatiable Ink and The Low Valley Review: Flipping the Script: Giving Women and Minorities a Lead Role Writing Contest.
This writing contest is meant to promote the Bentonville Film Festival as much as it is to encourage the reading and writing of stories, essays, and poems.
The contest opened on March 9th, and is open to the NorthWest Arkansas community and Arkansas community at large. Contest closes on Friday, April 24th.
Writers are invited to submit original works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry focused (in some way) on women and minorities.
Poets can submit up to 3 poems. There is a 5,000 word limit for works of fiction and nonfiction.
Winners will receive a framed awards certificate and be invited to read their work with writers published in the forthcoming issue of The Low Valley Review. The awards reading will be held during the Bentonville Film Festival.
Winners will also be considered for online publication by The Low Valley Review. For submission guidelines, please visit The Low Valley Review web site: http://thelowvalleyreview.com/.
Study Abroad in Belize!
NWACC’s Dr. Jacques Hill is leading a University of Arkansas study abroad course to Belize from May 11 to June 6 of 2015. NWACC students are invited to enroll.
The course is a Community Development Course with an Ecology emphasis. The course will provide students with community service hours. Participants will conduct biodiversity inventories in rainforests and mangroves, explore barrier islands, and work in local grades schools to educate children on environmental issues such as beach erosion, biodiversity, and water quality. Students will also go snorkeling on Caye Caulker and explore Mayan Ruins in the mountains of San Ignacio. Students will receive 6 UA credits. Respiratory Therapy Applications
The Respiratory Therapy applications are now available on the RT page of the NWACC website. Applications will be taken through June 1, 2015. Students accepted will begin Fall 2015. RED FLAG CAMPAIGN: Reporting and Resources for Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault
Launched during the fall semester 2014, the Red Flag Campaign is a Bystander Intervention campaign designed to provide education and outreach to students, faculty and staff in the areas of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and sexual assault.

Youth Bridge Mentoring Program
Chrystina Chastain-Byrd is looking for students, faculty, or staff interested in doing a service mentoring project with Youth Bridge.
Those who volunteer will be working with at-risk children referred to Youth Bridge by the juvenile court system.

Service Learning Opportunity to Mentor
Elmdale Elementary School in Springdale is seeking mentors for their students. Principal Michele Hutton describes the mentor program as such: We want mentors to come at lunch time and eat lunch with a small group or with individual students, one on one. It’s to provide a caring adult in their lives. We welcome mentors who will listen to them and encourage them. We want the mentors to tell them about college and the importance of getting an education. However, we have planned for the mentoring to be done in a relaxed environment. A couple of our mentors bring UNO cards, they play and talk. We really just want our kids to have someone who cares about them because they often don’t get that kind of caring attention at home.
Lunchtime Schedule: 3rd graders 11:30am-Noon; 4th graders, 12:05-12:35pm; 5th graders 12:15-12:45pm. To learn about participating in this program, contact Stephanie Hinsey, shinsey@sdale.org or 479-750-8859.

Academic Success Workshops
The Academic Success Center on campus is here to help you succeed in every way this semester! Please join us in Student Center (SC) 314 each Wednesday at 11 am and each Thursday at 2 pm for our Success Workshops. Starting on January 28 and 29, come find out why the Cornell Note-Taking method works and how you can use it to make the most of your study time. College Algebra Workshops
This spring the Math Center will offer a series of workshops for College Algebra students. Other students are also welcome. Topics will include: graphing calculator, regression analysis, how to study math, test anxiety, word problems, exponential & log functions, the ROWOPS program, and final exam reviews.
Developmental Level Algebra Workshops
Intermediate Algebra, Beginning Algebra, and Pre-Algebra level Workshops for Spring 2015.
Attached is a schedule for the spring 2015 Math Center workshops designed for developmental level math and algebra courses. Although these workshops have a targeted level for the most part, any level student is welcome who needs to work on the topic (at the targeted level).

Come join us in learning how to “redefine success and properly manage time” with Arianna Huffington and her video broadcast “Thrive.” Arianna Huffington, Pulitzer Prize winner, is the founder, president, and editor-in chief of The Huffington post. She has been awarded New York Times best-selling author with “Thrive” so this broadcast is an event you don’t want to miss! Replay event is April 1, 5:30-6:30pm in SC room 108.
Yoga/Meditation: Why Bother?
Join us for the monthly Brown Bag Lunchtime Series. This month features Par Michaelis-Talbott, owner of It’z OK Yoga Studio in Little Flock, and yoga instructor for 12 years.

1st and 3rd Graders Needed for Project on Children’s Memory
The Learning to Learn Project at the University of Arkansas is seeking 1st and 3rd graders to participate in a fun, interactive project designed to understand how children use their memories.
